Borovitskaya News

Well, things are picking up here at Boro. Nice to see new and old faces in the teachers' room. Hello to everyone.

For those of you who are teaching FCE and above, we have a couple of new books that should prove useful, namely 'Grammar and Vocabulary for First Certificate' and 'Grammar and Vocabulary for CAE and CPE'. They're both clear and thorough and test the language points according to the exam format. Useful for both remedial study and consolidation work, you can find them on the exam books shelf (next to Katya's desk).

A book that isn't new but is well worth a mention is Martin Parrott's 'Tasks for Language Teachers'. Topics include the use of L1 in the classroom, lesson planning and an interesting needs analysis that can be easily adapted as a useful speaking activity. The book lives in my office.

People using Cutting Edge might like to check out their website which includes advice for teachers and supplementary activities for each module.

The parachute jump is going ahead and will be on October 28th. Wish us luck!

Anyone interested in getting involved in a knock-out chess tournament should let me know.

Hope you enjoy the seminars; Guy and I won't be able to attend as we are on an IELTS training course this weekend. See you on Monday!

Tverskaya News

Hello all, I'm back from a wonderful vacation in Central Asia, blissfully ignorant of world events. If you're going to be in Moscow for a while, I would definitely recommend going to Uzbekistan. Friendly people, beautiful, historical cities, and not bad wine! I'd like to thank Rachel Peacock for keeping things running smoothly while I was away. Back to reality: new books. We've got: CPE Gold - course book, teacher's book, cassettes, and practice exams; Meaning into Words - course book, workbook and teacher's book (int./upper int.); LES FCE Listening and Speaking, Reading, Writing, Use of English (complete with teacher's books); Idioms Organiser; Conversation Lessons; Instant Grammar Lessons (photocopiable); Lessons with Laughter (photocopiable); Grammar with Laughter (photocopiable); FCE Practice Tests Plus; CAE Practice Tests Plus; and CAE Practice Tests Plus 2.

On a more social note, the trip to Rostov Velikiy was a success in spite of having to compete with Sveta's dacha party. If you are interested in going to a Golden Ring town, let us know and we'll arrange another excursion. We have a new face in Resources. Her name is Alicia and she is replacing Sveta. Please feel free to ask Alicia or Luda for help if you are having trouble finding something. See you in the pub after the seminars!
